What kind of equipment do I need to take a professional photo and how do I take a professional photo?
Q. I am wondering what kind of equipment I will need to take a professional looking photo and not one that looks like your everyday medioker photo? I am going to take a photo of a bride and a bridesmaid and I want it to look like it is a professional photo and not like your everyday type of photo. I will be taking the photo for a city fair photography contest. The rule states that I have to take it myself and cannot submit a photo taken be someone else and submit it as my own. Does anyone have any tips to make it look professional? I have an old nikon nt4 camera and will be using black and with film. A. Here is some general advice: As others previously said, lighting is important. Try to make sure that there are no harsh shadows, or at least as few as you can manage. I'm assuming that you will not have control of the lighting positions, so try throwing some diffusion material (frosted shower curtains work well) over the light. My advice would actually be to take them outside during bright daylight, and put them in the shade under a tree. This provides very good even lighting, and you can just put your backdrop on the tree. If you can't or choose not to take your background outside, and you have an slr (interchangeable lenses) you can make the background blurry by putting on a zoom lens (even moderate zoom should work), and opening… [cont.]

What photo editing software highlights just certain objects and leaves the others black and white?
Q. I am wanting to purchase professional photo editing software that will help me highlight a certain object in the picture. Example: I want a black and white photo with only the blue eyes showing in color. What software should I buy and it this an easy task to accomplish?

A. In PhotoShop, you can select the blue eyes and then go to "Select" and inverse the selection. Now everything but the blue eyes will be selected. You then go under Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation and desaturate everything. That will turn everything to black and white except the eyes. I'll try one and link it here. OK, there's an example for you. There are other ways to achieve this result, but I this worked really fast. You can also change the color -- make everything black and white but give him red eyes.

How can you restore an altered Photo Shop digital picture back to the original image/properties?
Q. I have Windows Photo Gallery which has a 'revert to original' feature but on some altered photos the option is not available. Is there another service or way to get back my original digital photo?

A. If the image was altered in another program, the Windows Photo Gallery is not going to have the save file which contains the original image. In that case, the original image is lost unless you have it saved elsewhere. In Photoshop if you make changes and then save the file without saving it as a copy, the changed image will replace the original image and it can't be undone.
