Space is the boundless, three-dimensional extent in which objects and events occur and have relative position and direction. Physical space is often conceived in three linear dimensions, although modern physicists usually consider it, with time, to be part of the boundless four-dimensional continuum known as spacetime. In mathematics one examines 'spaces' with different numbers of dimensions and with different underlying structures. The concept of space is considered to be of fundamental importance to an understanding of the physical universe although disagreement continues between philosophers over whether it is itself an entity, a relationship between entities, or part of a conceptual framework.

Many of the philosophical questions arose in the 17th century, during the early development of classical mechanics. In Isaac Newton's view, space was absolute - in the sense that it existed permanently and independently of whether there were any matter in the space. Other natural philosophers, notably Gottfried Leibniz, thought instead that space was a collection of relations between objects, given by their distance and direction from one another. In the 18th century, Immanuel Kant described space and time as elements of a systematic framework that humans use to structure their experience.

In the 19th and 20th centuries mathematicians began to examine non-Euclidean geometries, in which space can be said to be curved, rather than flat. According to Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity, space around gravitational fields deviates from Euclidean space. Experimental tests of general relativity have confirmed that non-Euclidean space provides a better model for the shape of space.

How much space is required to play a Wii?
Q. My husband and I are thinking about getting a Wii. We have some space limitations since our apartment is small. When we move later on this year space won't be a problem but I've been wanting a Wii ever since they came out. How much space does it require to play Wii? Or should I just wait til we move and get one?

A. Not much. We have our Wii set up in a TV room that is about 12 ft x 8ft. Now add in the chairs and couches and TV stand and Bookshelf- that leaves no room for a coffee table. But we can have 2 people playing baseball at the same time. So I think you will be fine. get the Wii and have some fun- your gonna love it!

How is the space in a mosque designed to facilitate Muslim prayer and worship?
Q. How is the space in a mosque designed to facilitate Muslim prayer and worship? Hi... I need some help I was just wondering... Love Islamic architecture but know little about the use of space and why. Can you help me out? Thanks.

A. I dont know anything great about architecture, but I can tell you that Muslims are required to pray in the Direction of Ka'aba (Mecca). And in a congregation all men stand together to pray in rows, straight lines, one behind the other. This is to promote unity and brotherhod and order. There is an imam who leads the prayer. So keeping this in mind, if you have to design a room you will of course first of all check the direction. The room in order to be straight is often made a little obliquely so that those come to pray have no difficulty. The have to stand facing the front wall and they are automatically facing the the direction of the Ka'aba. Because this has been taken care of during construction. The engineers design the room facing… [cont.]

How much space and time is required to build A single Nuclear reactor versus a solar power Plant?
Q. So I would like you to give me the cost, the time to build the KW/h it produces and the space a nuclear reactor requires. As well as the same for any single solar power plant. (All the stats of each have to be from a any, but all have to be from the same one) It's self-directed homework that's due in today, but I just wanted to know the answer in the end.

A. This is a loaded question with many right answers. I'll take a stab at it though. The largest proposed photovoltaic power station in the world is in Victoria, Australia and is estimated to produce 154 megawatts. It will utilize 2,000 acres of land. Conversely, the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear station in Japan is the largest nuclear power station in the world. It produces a little over 8,000 megawatts and utilizes 1,037 acres of land. Using these two extreme examples, nuclear power produces roughly 100 times more energy per acre than solar energy. Arguably, nuclear power stations are still cheaper to construct than solar energy stations. The cost of photovoltaic cells is still high as technology hasn't improved enough to reduce their cost. Space is the relatively empty space between celestial bodies such as stars, planets and moons.
